The University of Oregon has disabled relaying on their machines and IP blocks spamming sites. They also fight Usenet spam by honoring cancels and using filtering techniques.

Anyone who spams through Urbancom is charged a minimum of $500 for cleanup costs. They also will provide the name, address, and telephone numbers of the former member who made the mistake of spamming from their service to anyone who received spam from him/her so they can complain directly in an 'appropriate' manner.
